4 Signs God is at Work in Your Church

God is alive.

He is at work in your life, your church, your community, and around the world.

Observing God’s work is not a guessing game. God has revealed himself in the Bible, and he has provided us with signs we can see that help us to observe his work in our life and church.

There are many ways we can observe God’s work, but here are four signs to help you see his work in and through your church.

#1. Your church is experiencing new life

One clear sign God is at work in your church is the existence of new life.

Now, we’re not talking about your church having new members who transferred from another church. We’re talking about people in your community who came to faith for the first time through the work of your church.

As a church leader, you cannot create new life. However, you can create an environment for people to come to faith in Jesus Christ by proclaiming the gospel (1 Cor. 1:26; Eph. 1:18; 2 Thess. 2:14).

As your church builds relationships with non-believers and shares the gospel of Jesus Christ, in time, God will create new life in Christ.

#2. Your church lives and loves like Jesus

God does not leave us alone to figure things out after we place our faith in Christ.

The Holy Spirit is a helper who was sent to be with us forever (John 14:16). As our helper, he is at work in us, “both to will and to work for [God’s] good pleasure” (Phil 2:13).

In other words, the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence in our lives will lead us to live and love like Jesus.

There will be times when God’s presence in your personal life and the life of your church may not seem as prevalent, and you question the fervency of your devotion to Christ. Even though this is the case, God is at work in your life growing you and your church into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

#3. Your church prays

A praying life is a life dependent upon God.

Your church cannot function, and you cannot live the life God has called you to live without his help. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is active in giving us a desire to pray and to help us to pray (Rom. 8:26).

A church filled with members who pray individually and together as a group is a sign that God is at work in your church.

#4. Your church serves

The church is not a country club. The church’s purpose is not to exclusively provide you with friends or something to do during the week.

God desires for your church to serve your community by meeting the tangible needs of people who are in need. In other words, God will encourage and empower his people to meet the needs of others. So, if you observe the members of your church reaching out to your community in practical ways, then this is another sign God is at work in your church.
